Angel Island – Tiburon Ferry and Captain Maggie McDonogh are excited to be OPEN New Year’s Day 2016 – and invite you to participate in the California State Parks’ 4th Annual “First Day Hikes” Program taking place on Friday, Jan. 1, 2016.
During this free, public event, California State Parks invites you to start 2016 with a healthy hike at a California State Park near you. Planning to participate in a New Year’s Day hike at a California State Park is a great way to get in some outdoor fun, take in the amazing sights California offers and re-connect with nature.
People interested in participating in a free, easy 2 mile California State Parks guided hike on Angel Island State Park to the Battery Ledyard Overlook will want to catch the 10 a.m. Angel Island Ferry from our 21 Main Street, Tiburon, California dock – to meet up with the group at Ayala Cove Dock at 10:30 a.m.. Please allow ample time for parking.
The Angel Island State Park hike and is stroller and bike friendly, and will take place “rain or shine” unless a major storm strikes. Please note, access for this event is only from the Angel Island – Tiburon Ferry, located in Tiburon, California.
Please dress in layers, and California State Parks encourages you bring along:
- A camera
- Binoculars
- Water and snacks
- Sense of excitement

This year, more than 41 state parks are scheduled to host more than 55 hikes and outings on New Year’s Day.
Visitors can enjoy hikes across the state, from the redwoods, the deserts and along the coast and beaches. Hikers can look for whales, birds, hug a tree or just get some healthy exercise in the outdoors. Other outdoor activities include:
- Paddling on a quiet lagoon
- Snow hiking
- Visiting historic sites
- Waking on a beach
- Off-road vehicle riding
- Walking or hiking the world’s smallest mountain range.
